In this day and age the term "boycott" has a negative connotation. We attribute this to the attacks by the right wing on unions, NAACP, student groups and other groups of protesters that have successfully used boycotts in the past. This is supremely ironic because the Christian right and other conservative groups employ the same tactics, interspersed with a shooting or two, sanitized by the flag and blessed by the Bible.

The difference is that we are not looking for a divine blessing or claiming the patriotic high ground in this effort.

When we began the boycott, we did not do so out of malice.

As a group we have routinely defended KenTX \ Hugh Everett's right to blog on TYT. We did so because it was the right thing to do and with a hope that KenTX \ Hugh Everett would reciprocate by finally living up to his oft repeated  credo of "open and free debate".

Sadly, after several years, that has never happened in a meaningful way. Finally, after a series of insulting and demeaning political and personal attacks it has become readily apparent to all that his sole purpose for participating in the TYT Forum is to ridicule and demean TYT members for the principles they believe in.

<  For example, the latest "blog", http://www.theyoungturks.co m/story/2009/12/16/42035/16 9 is an prime example of why we boycott KenTX\Hugh Everett. The photo of Joe Lieberman in black face is only meant to do one thing: incite comments for a flame war and a new trolling opportunity.

KenTX / Hugh Everett's favorite straw men for situations like this are freedom of speech, censorship and the fairness doctrine.

When a blog complains about Limbaugh, Hannity or Beck, with a certainty of the sunrise there will be a post about "liberals" desire to  limit freedom of speech, impose censorship and reinstate the fairness doctrine. More often than not, the solution proposed is to simply not read the offensive material, turn the channel or close your ears.

When we announced the boycott the first response was how we were restricting the freedom of speech, we were censoring  KenTX / Hugh Everett or attempting to establish a web based version of the fairness doctrine.


Freedom of speech does not guarantee an audience nor, as our conservative friends often point out, a platform. We are graciously provided a platform by TYT, they can also take it away if they choose. After that, its up to the TYT member.

More often than not, the solution proposed by KenTX / Hugh Everett to complaints about Fox and "conservative" pundits is to simply not read the offensive material, turn the channel or close your ears. Very true, we agree. The lack of comments on KenTX / Hugh Everett blogs proves our point.

Other things you should know are:

    * If you choose to engage KenTX \ Huge Everett in" debate" that is, of course, your privilege.

    * We have no ability to delete or change posts or otherwise shun those who do choose to post and play with KenTX \ Huge Everett. Enjoy, God bless and go forward.

   * We are making no attempt ban "conservatives", KenTX \ Huge Everett from TYT. First KenTX \ Huge Everett is  not a real conservatives on. Second people are banned from TYT for poor behavior, not politics.

   *We engage users who honestly represent their views and are truly representative of the conservative point of view, unsavory or otherwise..honestly.

   *KenTX / Hugh Everett now demands an audience and threatens to disrupt any attempt to provide tools and choices to users to tailor their TYT experience to meet their needs. This will be done through the use of sock puppets and surrogates. He has already switched back to his alias of KenTX. Don't be fooled.

Freedom of choice is a simple concept. One that cuts both ways with impunity. That fact infuriates so called "conservatives":

    * We choose not to play the game any longer.

    * We choose not to dignify the bait and switch tactics, personal attacks and insults employed by KenTX / Hugh Everett in his blogs.

    * We choose not to participate in enabling KenTX / Hugh Everett personality issues , "personal information" red herrings and attempts to influence the debate with superfluous personal information.

    *  We choose not to listen to claim of  bribes through (fictitious) "donations" to TYT , exaggerated claims of "insider" influence over the TYT programing staff and duplicitous offers of personal favors and friendship.

In short, we choose to boycott, (ignore) KenTX / Hugh Everett.

BTW by now you've received the de rigueur "Welcome To The Forum" message from KenTX.  In the message he probably mistakenly assumes you're a conservative of some type.

Be advises that Ken is the local conservative troll, serial exaggerator and sock puppeteer .  I am sure he has regaled you with tales of how he kicks our asses blah blah blah.

I can't see Kens posts because I use scripts to redact them from my web browser. Does that mean I'm scared or a pussy? No..it means I choose to spend my remaining time on the planet doing something constructive, not playing whack a mole with a 10 year old.

Perhaps he has described his multiple and ever increasing inventory of "advanced degrees", all summa cum laude of course, his oil wells, cattle ranch.

He lives and is from Texas where he claims he went to the most impoverished high school in Appalachia(???). At that high school he pulled himself up by his Texas boot straps to graduate with honors and...it changes so much I cant remember.

Maybe he discussed his relations to the Lone Ranger, his family being holders of original Spanish land grants in Texas, his wealth, his investment acumen and ability to time markets where he sells off his vast "holdings" ( just before the current run up) assuming the market will tank to prove" Obama will fail".

He always has a relative or friend that somehow knows more, does it better as a "conservative" in regard to any particular subject you may be discussing. No matter where you have livedor what you have done, he's been there, lived there or owns something there.

Did he discuss his insider status at TYT, or his involvement in national Republican politics? Even his gardener makes $120,000. I know his name, where he lives, his inventory of wealth..everything is bigger and better in Texas and , chances are, Ken has something to do with it.

How do I know this? Not because of a desire to know , rather, because he volunteers said "information"and repeats it over and over and over again in a ersatz Tourett's  of conservative ego gratification.

He's the most interesting man in the world. He doesn't drink beer often, but when he does he drinks  Milwalkees Finest because everything he posts is total bullshit.

If he has "kicked our asses" he has done it in terms of brute repetition, not in the rhetorical sense; repeating the same GOP and Limbaugh talking point over and over and over, no matter how many times it is refuted, ad naseum, ad infinitum until we reached a point of boredom and exasperation.

 Ken has nothing new or interesting to say. We have read it all before, read it all again and again and again looking for a sliver of originality and thought.

The fact is we just don't care anymore.

He simply,is a nuisance and impediment to discussion. He's mad simply because we aren't paying attention to him any more.

I received a note about Kens baseless accusations. So , I suspending my scripting removing kens posts from my browser to set the record straight.

Ken is the sock puppet master on TYT. That is also one of the reasons we are boycotting his posts and blogs. Last count ken had employed over 20 sockpuppets to date. Ken has also threatened to use an "army" of sock puppets to circumvent the boycott.

Of course Ken embellished his reply with another fiction embellishing his already exaggerated resume.

Ken's LaredoLarry sockpuppet employs a trick Ken has used in the past of creating sock puppets to "harrass" him.

He usually attributes these sock puppets to me.  He goes into my old blogs and uses old comments paraphrased to capture my writing style. he often goes as far as posting around the same time I log on to TYT in the mornings. Obsessive don't you think? Invariably the sock puppets provide Ken a protagonist and allows ken to expound on Kens favorite subject; Ken. 

Use of a "stalker" sockpuppets also gives Ken cover to re-spin his various claims about his wealth, education, relatives, oil wells, cattle ranches, "friends", like this little gem. The sockpuppet ruse also allows ken to claim he is the injured party.

This comment refers to LaredoLarry's use of this picture in his profile. Of course if Ken had the skills to check these things he would know that this photo comes from  on line costume  company http://www.partypants.co.uk . the other photo:http://simplesweet.fi les.wordpress.com.  PhotoShoping photos on other web servers and using those servers as the referrer for a live link (to use on TYT) is even beyond my capability not that I would waste the time.

4. LaredoLarry follows Kens pattern of behavior to the smallest detail. Ken uses photos to bolster his fantasy ego, for example this photo from the movie "There Will Be blood" he uses on his account profile. Ken fancies himself as a oil tycoon, wildcat driller ect.

This photo he used in his "Hugh Everett" profile. Hugh Everett was physicist that shares the same ideas about creation that Ken often refers to in his blogs.

You will not all the characters ken uses sport mustaches. Ken probably wears or mustache , or wishes he could grow one.

Ken always includes little"clues" in his characters. It makes him feel like he has pulled something over on the TYT community. This is the photo he used in his "LoredoLarry" The LoredoLarry photo is a web store photo of a "Mexican Bandit" costume. Ken often post flame baiting blogs about immigrants then claims a distant Mexican heritage as justification.

In closing don't fall for the lies. Ken is the sock puppet king at TYT.

I'm sorry to have to join but based on my observations I have to agree with you. It's not that I care about his being abusive. I try not to encourage people that I believe may be suffering from a mental illness. Not because I don't want to talk to them (I do this all the time as I have a lot of contact with mentally ill individuals) but because I fear that these types of forums can contribute to their problems. This is especially true for paranoia but also other types where extreme attention seeking is part of their problem.

I don't join a boycott lightly, nor am I trying to be mean and insulting. I hope Ken will seek help, he seems to be a very troubled individual who has nothing better to do than bother people online. Get help please, Ken. And best wishes.

All of this is speculation of course. The other explanation is he/she is so arrogant he thinks it cant happen to him/her, in other words, an idiot.

There is a certain level of trust in any social media. Well adjusted people will discuss part of there personal lives as a matter of course.The people who use every opportunity to work in a personal reference are the ones you have to watch.

Its funny that a society that seems to be fixated on privacy can't keep its mouth shut about personal information. I am always amazed at the number of people who do not realize that millions of Internet users have the potential to read the material they post on the web. If you want to have a private conversation..do it in PRIVATE, and don't text or leave voice mail either...right Tiger?

The scariest place in the world( information assurance wise) to me is Facebook.

People put pictures of the kids, addresses, telephone numbers health conditions, you name it...it's insane. The controls are easily hacked,what a nightmare. What a goldmine for thieves and identity pirates.

Twitter is another one..."Hey Im at XYZ right now!." Meanwhile a van backs up to your house and takes all your stuff...

Consultants tell me that clients who are  serious about security and have proprietary information to protect block Facebook,AIM,IRC MySpace, Twitter ect.. and web based emails at their businesses.

Employees who work from the road do it with locked down VM ACE desktops ,  tunneling in to the corporate net through a boundry layer, a DMZ, then to CITRIX Meta frame , loading desktops based on job position.Internal employees use Citrix as well through a boundary layer. All locked down of course.

Touchy feely  companies who want employees to have access to these service can do so through "kiosk" applications separate from the internal network if they want to spend the cash.

Crazy world. I wonder what the next big social app is going to be?

I am tired of all the posts about the trolls, and boycotting the trolls and ignoring the trolls, etc... I am tired of the "intrigue" around all the various sock-puppets.

I find it irritating that the posts that get the most replies are either:

1. about this very subject (i.e. "let's boycott KenTX)
   
2. posted by one of the regular trolls
   
3. start with a normal post but are they hijacked by a big war about trolls.

I think the ultimate anti-KenTX movement should involve feeding the posts of regular people versus ignoring the trolls. It's no fun for a newbie to come to TYT and make a post about something important to them and just to be ignored while the regulars simply continue to only be motivated by this incestual infighting.  It gets old and boring after a while.

This "ignoring the trolls" strategy needs to be augmented by making an effort to cull positive dialog.

Just my two cents.

Anyway, during this social experiment he specifically tried three angles. First he ran a test period where he ran negative stories about both sides (Dems and Repubs) equally. Then he ran a test period where he ran negative stories only about the GOP. Finally, he did a test period where he ran only negative stories about the Democrats.   The results for the bipartisan mudslinging test period were off the charts - and the site was very successful. However, once the site began running negative stories about only one party, the traffic deeply declined. It seems that the only time the site was booming was when BOTH sides were engaged.

Therefore, if the ultimate goal of the TYT forum is traffic, hype, hits and activity then this forum needs to remain balanced... There are many sites where progressives can go to interact with other progressives... however, they probably won't be as popular as a site where you've got a lot the opposing side there.  Sometimes I even think that perhaps the reason the administrators won't get rid of some of the trolls (who shall remain nameless) is because they know that this back/forth increases participation and followers.

I don't know... just a thought...

I'm sure that in the body of this website  we have been given, by the grace of God and the Founders, a self serving explanation why the troll posts here. The explanation usually go like this

1. Convert young men to (?) conservatism.

2. Show liberals the "truth".

3. Exercise constitutional right of free speech.

4. Express the conservative point of view.

5. Propogate GOP propaganda.

The real reason is simple, our friend is a small, small man in a big, big world. Terrorizing TYT with grandiose personal nonsense , insults, demeaning opponents , making openly racist, misogynistic comments is his way of getting what he doesn't get at home: attention. In this way he is a "big man" in a small world he believes he can dominate, the world of TYT. For him, TYT is an escape, a substitute for the reality of deep and disappointing personal failures in the real world.

He thinks he is in control with his fabrications, tall tales and "undebatable" conservative 'logic' none of which contains one original though other than paraphrasing the conservative talking point of the week. You will notice in the selected bits ( of thousands) of conservative opinion that the pervasive theme is "manhood" and "achievement", things that our friend obviously has issues with, hence his need to remind the reader of his self described superiority. Below are just a few of the "conservative" opinions we are treated to here at TYT.

So what to make of the small sample of KenTX'isms?

Ken has used and continues to use sock puppets, he has laid out the strategy of their deployment in bit and pieces in his posts. hHs constant accusal's of me perpatrating sock puppet attacks and tricks is right from his play book, used to discredit me and scare off users who challenge him for his deceptive posts.

KenTX is quick to gather "evidence" Dont belive the misinformation.

Unfortunately for KenTX , a group of unrelated quotes in a public forum proves nothing other than Ken is very clever to pick out usage from me( or other users )and use it in his  sock puppets.

It also proves lots of people read these posts, it is a PUBLIC forum.

Here Ken describes his strategy, generate outrage over "unfair attacks" in his defense of one John McCain:

We are debating weather to expand the boycott to include bobo after his latest purposeful race baiting exercise:

The latest effort at coordinated trolling by KenTX and his side kick Bobo1 demonstrates why we boycott KenTX. It is summarized in the note to Hubble by a former TYT member

We will soon consider if we should add bobo1 to the boycott because of his purposeful use of race baiting to , in his words " irritate liberals.

I personally think bobo demonstrates the worst of conservative "values" and makes a useful display the depravity associated with the far right fringe.

Please know when we announced the boycott the first response was how we were restricting the freedom of speech, we were censoring KenTX / Hugh Everett or attempting to establish a web based version of the fairness doctrine.

Freedom of speech does not guarantee an audience nor, as our conservative friends often point out, a platform. We are graciously provided a platform by TYT, they can also take it away if they choose. After that, it's up to the TYT member.

More often than not, the solution proposed by KenTX / Hugh Everett to complaints about Fox and "conservative" pundits is to simply not read the offensive material, turn the channel or close your ears.

Very true, we agree. The lack of comments on KenTX / Hugh Everett blogs proves our point. Other things you should know are:
   

* If you choose to engage KenTX \ Huge Everett in" debate" that is, of course, your privilege.

 

* We are making no attempt ban "conservatives", KenTX \ Huge Everett from TYT. First KenTX \ Huge Everett is  not a real conservatives on. Second people are banned from TYT for poor behavior, not politics.
   

*We engage users who honestly represent their views and are truly representative of the conservative point of view, unsavory or otherwise honestly.
   

*KenTX / Hugh Everett now demands an audience and threatens to disrupt any attempt to provide tools and choices to users to tailor their TYT experience to meet their needs. This will be done through the use of sock puppets and surrogates. He has switched back to his alias of KenTX and has used at least 5 sock puppets to date to circumvent the boycott.

Don't be fooled.

Freedom of choice is a simple concept. One that cuts both ways with impunity. That fact infuriates so called "conservatives":
    * We choose not to play the game any longer.

    * We choose not to dignify the bait and switch tactics, personal attacks and insults employed by KenTX / Hugh Everett in his blogs.
    * We choose not to participate in enabling KenTX / Hugh Everett personality issues, "personal information" red herrings and attempts to influence the debate with superfluous personal information.
    * We choose not to listen to claim of bribes through (fictitious) "donations" to TYT , exaggerated claims of "insider" influence over the TYT programming staff and duplicitous offers of personal favors and friendship.

However, I just read it out of curiosity since it has stimulated this blog over here.  

Bobo1 is a dork. He starts off the blog stating that the earthquake was bigger in magnitude and therefore deserves more press coverage. Then later claims that it's not about size at all (backpeddling begins).When everyone starts posting facts and figures comparing the two quakes and their death tolls, then he tries to make the point that even if one person died in Chile the media should make a huge deal out of it because 1 life, 2 lives, 100,000 lives, it should all be treated exactly the same in the media, correct?  

In the end, his straw man argument is completely destroyed but he's still flailing about, responding to everyone about how sick he is of seeing people with a certain skin tone (black) getting help and media coverage and the attention of the public.  So now it's apparent that this guy has a serious chip on his shoulder and it's not even worth trying to figure out his underlying issues.

The best thing is to not read his blogs. However, I will admit that reading everyone's replies was educational, interesting and even funny.  Especially the one about Bobo needing to get some new furniture for his dollhouse... definitely made me chuckle...

The boycott subject claims his pupose here is to debate. We all know he is here to troll and harass.Thats why we boycott his posts.

Let's see if he puts his "fantasty" money where his mouth is.

I doubt it.
